Commission FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about my custom whimsical animal paintings!

Luna Kahlo

Do you work from pictures?

Yes! I paint from pictures! If you aren’t sure which you want to use, I can help you decide :) Knowing which picture you want will also help us decide on the shape of the canvas.

How do I send you the pictures I want to use?

Usually just through email! Sometimes I may ask you to upload them to Drop Box or Google Docs if we are having trouble getting them to not compress in email.

How long do commissions take?

This largely depends on the medium, size, and how full my calendar is. Most watercolor paintings take a week to actually paint. Oil paintings can take anywhere from three weeks to three months, depending on size and complexity.

Can you do multiple pets?

Yes! Since it requires more detail work, there is an extra fee.

I’m nervous I won’t like it! Are there any sort of guarantees?
  1. I work really hard to make sure you know what you are getting! You should already know my artistic style, but I will send you a concept drawing before hand for you to approve. I will also send you some progress shots and contact you if I want to deviate from the original plan.
  2. Because oil paintings are time-consuming, they are not 100% refundable. Refunds will be given based on the percentage of work completed if the commission is cancelled. I also check in during the piece’s progress to ensure you love it!
  3. If you are unhappy with your watercolor portrait and I’m not able to fix it (they are very temperamental), I will either attempt to remake it or refund your money.
Do you take payments?

Since oil paintings are more of an investment, you bet I do! Payment options include: All up front; half now and half at the time of completion; or for large paintings, in thirds, with the additional payment due at one-third completion. Watercolor portraits must be paid for up front.

Do you charge for shipping or tax?

Yes. You will be charged sales tax if you live in Washington State. Shipping is an additional charge that varies based on painting size and your location. I can give you a shipping estimate once I know what you want!
